Why I Agreed to Be an Evangelist for Sunday Sentinels™

In 2013, I designed and helped fund a 6-credit class at The College of Charleston that I taught pro-bono for over 11 years. Called ImpactX, it's now the #1 class at the School of Business, and there are 6 of them. I also spent over 8 years on the Board of Trustees and 4 years on the Executive Committee.

Those experiences showed me how deeply students need consistent support — academically, emotionally, and personally.

One of my children went to CofC, so I was blessed to be here as her Sentinel. My other two children went to Delaware and Quinnipiac, and I wished something like this existed during their first year of college when I couldn't be there.

Like many parents, I learned firsthand how hard it is to support your child from a distance — and how much peace comes from knowing someone local is looking out for them.

In recognition of how much I have given back to Charleston, the City gave me my own day, in 2023. Hence, March 29th every year is Stuart M. Williams Day in Charleston, SC. Being that immersed in the community, I've watched too many students fail, crash, burn, and at times face even worse. I know that if students had safe places, a healthy weekly meal, a shoulder to cry on, and a local mentor, they'd be far less likely to become overwhelmed and emotionally broken.

Sunday Sentinels™ was created to provide exactly that — steady support during the year students need it most.
