Terms of Service

1. Acceptance of Terms

By accessing or using Sunday Sentinels™ ("the Platform"), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service. If you do not agree to these terms, you may not use the Platform. The Platform is operated by Sunday Sentinels™ and is intended to connect college freshmen with local mentors in Charleston, SC.

2. Eligibility

Freshmen: Must be enrolled as a freshman at The College of Charleston or Charleston Southern University, be at least 18 years old, and have parental/guardian consent if under 21.

Sentinels: Must be at least 40 years old, reside within 6 miles of a partner campus, pass background checks, and agree to provide weekly mentorship and Sunday meals.

Parents/Guardians: Must be the legal parent or guardian of an enrolled freshman.

3. Application and Approval Process

All Sentinel and Freshman applications are subject to review and approval by Sunday Sentinels™ administrators. We reserve the right to reject any application for any reason. Approval does not guarantee matches.

Sentinels must undergo and pass a background check before being approved. Sentinels affirm they have no criminal record, are not on any watch lists, and will provide a safe environment for students.

4. Fees and Payment

Sentinels may charge a monthly fee (ranging from $0 to $400) for their mentorship services, including Sunday meals. Payment terms are arranged directly between Freshmen (or their families) and Sentinels.

Sunday Sentinels™ does not process payments and is not responsible for payment disputes between parties. All financial arrangements are private agreements between Freshmen/families and Sentinels.

5. Mentor-Mentee Relationship

Expectations: Sentinels agree to provide weekly Sunday meals, a safe and supportive environment, mentorship guidance, and up to two emergency overnight stays if needed.

Weekly Reports: Sentinels must submit weekly reports documenting attendance, duration, happiness ratings, engagement levels, and any concerns about the Freshman's wellbeing.

Communication: Parents/guardians will receive weekly reports and have direct communication access to their student's Sentinel.

Boundaries: All interactions must remain professional and appropriate. Any inappropriate behavior should be reported immediately to Sunday Sentinels™ administrators.

6. Safety and Conduct

Users agree to:

  • Conduct themselves professionally and respectfully at all times
  • Report any safety concerns, inappropriate behavior, or violations immediately
  • Not engage in harassment, discrimination, or illegal activities
  • Respect privacy and confidentiality of all parties
  • Comply with all applicable laws and regulations

Sunday Sentinels™ reserves the right to terminate accounts and remove users who violate these conduct standards.

7. Liability and Disclaimers

Independent Relationships: Sunday Sentinels™ facilitates introductions but does not employ, supervise, or control Sentinels. The mentorship relationship is an independent arrangement between the Sentinel and Freshman/family.

No Guarantees: We do not guarantee the quality, safety, or outcomes of any mentorship relationship. While we screen Sentinels, users are responsible for their own safety and decisions.

Limitation of Liability: To the fullest extent permitted by law, Sunday Sentinels™ shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages arising from use of the Platform.

College Affiliation: Sunday Sentinels™ is NOT affiliated with, endorsed by, or approved by The College of Charleston or Charleston Southern University. We are an independent organization.

8. Termination

Either party may terminate a mentorship connection at any time for any reason. Users may also request account deletion by contacting support. Sunday Sentinels™ reserves the right to terminate accounts that violate these Terms or engage in inappropriate conduct.

9. Intellectual Property

All content on the Platform, including logos, designs, text, and software, is owned by Sunday Sentinels™ and protected by copyright and trademark laws. Users may not reproduce, distribute, or create derivative works without permission.

10. Privacy

Your use of the Platform is also governed by our Privacy Policy. By using the Platform, you consent to our collection and use of your information as described in the Privacy Policy.

11. Modifications

Sunday Sentinels™ reserves the right to modify these Terms at any time. We will notify users of material changes via email or Platform notification. Continued use after changes constitutes acceptance of the modified Terms.

12. Governing Law

These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of South Carolina, without regard to conflict of law principles. Any disputes shall be resolved in the courts of Charleston County, South Carolina.
